Ep. 44 The Coming AI Detection Wars

Ep. 44 The Coming AI Detection Wars
Nik Janos and Zach Justus

AI detection is escaping the classroom. In this episode, we look at the rise of Pangram and a series of controversies involving a novelist, an international literary prize, and a university provost. Better AI detection may make it easier to identify AI involvement in writing, but it doesn’t tell us whether that use was appropriate, deceptive, or meaningful. We explore the coming battles over authorship, disclosure, surveillance, and trust, and why higher education may be an early battleground in a much larger fight over human-AI collaboration.
